Comments: Just want to make sure whatever contributions I make are specifically for this type of cancer. My wife was diagnosed with this type of cancer, Stage III. She is in remission for it after a year of chemo (unsuccessful) a high risk operation @ MD Anderson in Dec where they had removed a tennis ball sized tumor. The operation was considered a big success. She had 2 mo. of radiation earlier this year @ MD Anderson as well and her cat-scan last month was still "clear." But things will never be the same! It's still like a cloud chasing us. It really really really, sucks. People even family and close friendss don't understand why me and my wife are still so depressed, but enough of that.

An e-mail stating that this would be the best organization to donate $$ (what little we have after this ordeal) just want to make sure it's spec for this type cancer, although all cancer sucks and I still make smaller donations to other cancer organizations....

Hi, I just wanted to say that i found your site very well put together and lot of info. Thank you so much for having it. As for me I started feeling sick last summer. My Red week slowly became longer which for me it went from 3 to 5 then to 7 and then from oct. on it just was almost all mo.. long story short i ended up in the ER Feb.09 by time i got to see a dr it was the 10th.AM and they told me i need surgery ASAP! so latter that am i was having a Hystoretomy they took even my ceric but left my olverys and tubs. then omg the new came 8weeks latter after many reviews that i had leiomyosarcoma... Ok so what was that.. well they told me i was in shock i am only 37 how could this happen.. so two weeks latter i had surgery again to take what they left out. wow ok now recovering cause it was just last week april 14th. Now just waiting for the news is anything funny was found with that stuf. So looking around i found your site got tons of info of what was going on or what it was. LMS is so much easyer to say lol ... my dr says he took an extra look around and made sure no signs of anything left. so i have high hopes that this is it for me.. although i do know it is posable it is not. ...ok so saying more than short story..lol well thanks any how.. always looking forward to what life is.. and what i will do no matter what it has in store for me. lol ps sorry really bad speller.. lol

Comments: Just had a uterine fibroid removed in many pieces laparoscopically since they thought it was benign. Found out two weeks later that it was a leiomyosarcoma. What an interesting journey I have now begun. Just two years post bone marrow transplant for CMML (still having Graft versus Host Disease) have to admit I was a bit surprised by this one. Thank goodness the research and interest continue despite the rarity of leiomyosarcomas.

I was diagnosed with LeioMyo Sarcoma on April 24, 2000; it was in my inferior vena cava; I had surgery and had a 3 inch area cut out and a new graft put in. I have been healthy almost 9 yrs now. I lost my dog to this same cancer 3 yrs ago.You have to keep positive that you can beat this thing. I was a patient at Methodist Hospital in Indianapolis, IN. I pray for anyone that goes through this. I suffered with pain in my abdomen for over 2 years before they found what was causing my pain. 9 yrs ago I couldn't find any info on this I'm so glad to see that I'm not alone. Keep the faith!

Comments: I was diagnosed with LMS in November 2007 and underwent a total abdominal hysterectomy at Rush University/Medical Center. I had pelvic radiation(28)treatments for the cancer that returned in the vagina along with a combination of Chemo- Carbo/Taxol for the nodules on the lung. In August 2008 I underwent a Thoracostomy to remove the nodules in the lung. The lung specimen came back negative for sarcoma. My last scan in November 2008 showed no signs of cancer. I am currently working and feel very healthy and strong. I speak life to myself each and every day, because Death is in the power of the tongue. So for all of you who struggle with this devastating illness, know that you are not alone. God will walk with you, speak life to yourself, speak healing to yourself, claim nothing of this illness and it to shall pass. Walk by faith and not by site, you can make it. I would like to help support those who are going through, so please let me know how I can become a member of the NLMSF.

I was diagnosed with lieomyosarcoma after routine surgery for a hysterectomy in January 2007. One of 4 fibroids was cancerous. Following a PET scan(immediately after diagnosis) tumours in my lungs were apparent. I had 4 cycles of chemo - adriamycin, ifosfamide & mesna. The tumours in my lungs decreased, but within 6 months had doubled in size. I had both tumours removed, surgery was February & April 2008. Although prognosis isn't great I currently feel well. I have been fortunate that I have not had to return to work & I spend time daily on my fitness including bootcamp, gym, walking & playing basketball. I have no doubt general fitness has been of great benefit. I live in Ballarat a regional town in Victoria, Australia. I find it very difficult to get any information & there are no support groups here that I know of for LMS. When I contacted the Australian Cancer Council I was told that because LMS patients generally have a short life span and because their are so few cases in Australia there was no specific group for LMS. It is greatb to find you & I'm sure I will visit your sight regularly.

Hello, I'm a female Hispanic living in North Carolina diagnosed with uterine Lyomiosarcoma on late September,2007. I had a surgery to remove the cancer and my uterus on Ocotber 31, 2007. Then in January, 2008 I had another surgery to remove my ovaries and to test my lymp nodes. The result came back negative. I also took quimo for 3 months (taxe-gimsar).I go back for a ct-scan every three months and everything seems to be ok. On the mean time all I do is trust God with all my heart and when I feel fear, I always remember that God's love and mercy is bigger than any cancer.

I will begin chemo therapy with Gemzar/Taxotere next week. The lesion is on the pelvic bone. The diagnosis has been difficult because of the bone involvment. I was diagnosed in June with cancer cells. Thru CTs, MRIs, Bone scans, PET scans, it has been determined that this is the only site.

I was diagnosed with LMS early in 2008 (lung slide sent to Mayo Clinic, AZ) and since then have been to MD Anderson who looked at the same tissue sample(s). Diagnosis has changed to sarcoma of unspecified origin. That is great since there are 50 subtypes. I have gone through chemotherapy(adriamycin, iphosfamide and mesna) there are multiple spots in both lungs and no primary site has been found after PET/CT's, CT's, EGD, colonoscopy with ultrasound and MRI. The multiple spots on the lungs are 1.5mm and scattered. There was not much change after chemo so we are taking a wait and see approach with a CT in 6 weeks. I have a beautiful and supportive wife, and a georgeous 6 yr. old little girl.

I was diagnosed with LMS of the left kidney (12 cm tumor)which had grown through the renal vein up the vena cava and into my heart. Had surgery in Feb. 08. Scans in May 08 were clear. First appt tomorrow (7-22-08) at MD Anderson. Not sure what happens now. I am guessing cat scans 4 times a year and chemo if it reappears. Am going to check on clinical trials at MD Anderson.

My oldest son, Joey, was diagnosed with LMS of the brain, in 2005 at the age of 15. He has been through a lot of different chemos and even the gamma knife radiology treatment. It seems that everytime we get a little bit of good news that a chemo is helping this horrible monster will becomes immune to it and we are searching for another that may help. When first diagnosed the doctors gave us the news that there is not a lot of research for them to use for his type and that there were only three other cases involving 2-older women and a little boy that was 11 years old and they didn't make it the first year. Joey has been through a lot with this horrible cancer, too much to even get into, but he is truly a hero for dealing with this as well as he has after all these years and says that he does it for me and his 2-brothers and sister.

I found out about your website from a friend who had one of your postcards and ribbon. The odd thing about this is a women (that I don't even know)who lived around the corner from me just died from leiomyosarcoma. How coincidental considering how rare it is and she lived right in my neighborhood. If you could possibly send me 10 ribbons that would be great. Paula Oldham 45 Riverside Ave Quincy MA 02169

05/13/08 Well lets see. My wife found this site and thought it a good idea to sign in to speak with others to see what their experience has been. I found out last week that I have LMS in the center of my stomach area. It does not seemed to have spread any further and is about 9x9 centimeters in size. I guess its wrapped around too many other organs/vessels to operate so we are going to MD Anderson in Houston next week to see what they think we should do. I guess its rather rare to begin with and being that it can't be surgically removed presents additional problems. Are there any guys out there who have similar experience and can provide some insight for me?

A wonderful site with lots of information for sharing. Great job. May 23 will be 3-year survivor and according to the Drs. I wasn't supposed to be here. Primary vaginal LMS, rare. Recurrence resulting in total pelvic exenteration with colostomy and urinary diversion and still learning the challenges! Mets to the lungs, using Bill Peeple's cocktail and very positive imaging and optimistic.

I am a 4 1/2 year survivor of LMS. I spoke to another survivor yesterday who was introduced to a 25 year survivor of LMS. For all of you who are newly diagnosed.........remember we CAN live with LMS for many years. Statistics are only as good as the numbers entered. We are people - not numbers. We can survive LMS.
