It is with regret and great sadness to say that our beloved Lon passed away on 23 March 2010 at her local hospital in England.

Lon was first diagnosed with Leiomyosarcoma over 4 years ago. The outlook was bleak even at that time. This rare cancer is indiscriminate in where it can occur in the body. Lon, in her usual positive fashion, decided at the outset she would fight as best she could. She set targets to meet in her life as a measure against the inevitable outcome of this disease. She reached her 40th birthday and surprise surprise she held a party! Friends will know this was unusual, however, dear friends and family came to her party and celebrated with her the fact that she had recovered well from the first round of invasive surgery and radiotherapy.

Life continued and she enjoyed the luxury of thinking to the future, not just next week as had been the case for the first year, but maybe weeks and then months. Lon resumed work and life almost became normal again. However, the cancer did make it's return and again Lon faced the decision to agree to a huge schedule of surgery. Some months of recovery were required after this but, as ever, she fought, kept smiling and recovered as best as she could. Some months later she suffered a series of setbacks as a result of the massive surgery and more months were set aside with visiting hospitals, receiving treatment and enduring yet more surgery.

In spite of the massive toll on her body, Lon kept her spirits up and looked to the future again, albeit in monthly helpings. Her personal target at this time was to have just one year clear from visiting hospitals. She made that year, but the cancer was waiting and just before last Christmas it started to creep to new previously cancer free areas of her body. At the end of January she was admitted to hospital yet again and faced the inevitable truth that this time round all avenues of treatment had been exhausted. Palliative care was all that could be offered from now on with a slim chance that low dose chemotherapy might help to relieve her restricted breathing. Things were now at their bleakest but still Lon believed she had the inner faith to stay with us for a while longer.

She regained enough strength to be allowed home! However, she was now so weak and had lost a lot of mobility. But she was so happy to be at home. She would not believe that her time left with us was going to be as short as it turned out to be.

With the support of doctors, nurses and a whole host of medicial professionals, but especially with the love of her close family, Lon hung in there for a few more weeks. On 23 March, it was very clear that she needed serious medicial intervention and she was readmitted to hospital. Sadly, this was her last day. She finally slipped away with no pain in the arms of her loved ones.

Lon will be missed by so many. She had a network of friends and family right across the globe. She is at rest now but everyone who knew and loved her will miss her
